Biman sets March target to resume flights to UK

The United Kingdom has pulled its ban on direct cargo flights from Dhaka, Bangladesh to the UK, although a ban remains on one carrier.
The UK ruling means all airlines can carry cargo to the UK except Biman Bangladesh Airlines, which still needs a certificate of 'air cargo or main carrier operating into the union from a third country airport (ACC3)' to comply with regulations.

The ban was lifted after the Bangladesh government took measures including recruiting a UK-based aviation security agency, developing an Export Cargo Complex with three layers of security, introducing European standard training for cargo handling, establishing two explosive detection systems (EDS) and introducing an Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) cargo scanning system.

Biman Bangladesh managing director AM Mosaddique Ahmed said an ACC3 correspondent had started an audit that should take four days.

"We expect to get clearance (to fly to the UK) by the first week of March and then start direct cargo flights to the UK,” he said.
