AA pilots pleased by airline's response to safety complaints

The pilots union at American Airlines (AA) says it is 'encouraged' by the company's response to complaints its members have made about safety issues.

The union cited fewer 'routine aircraft inspections' and 'shorter test flights on planes returning from major maintenance work' among its concerns, plus tools left in wheel wells and items found in 'the sterile area' around planes parked at airport gates.

The airline said it has an industry-leading safety management system and is in regular contact with regulators and unions to keep its systems in shape.
