Skyportz enters vertiport market

Australian advanced air mobility (AAM) group Skyportz is launching Wilbur Air, a subsidiary that will operate up to 100 Electra electric/hybrid-electric eSTOL aircraft on a planned Australian vertiport network.

The Electra plane is being certified under FAA Part 23 rules and could fly by 2028.

“There is enormous interest from the property industry," said Skyportz ceoo and founder Clem Newton-Brown, referring to the plan's infrastructure needs.

“We are working with governments, air regulators and communities to establish parameters for the introduction of vertiport infrastructure and short takeoff and landing runways,” said Newton-Brown.

“If all the aircraft do is fly from airports and helipads then there will be no revolution. We need to start developing vertiports in new locations now.”
