The International Air Transport Association (IATA) has downplayed the news that air freight traffic fell by 2.1 per cent in March from the same month a year ago - in part due to lower demand from Asian Pacific carriers.
A National Air Cargo Boeing 747-400F with seven crew on board has crashed at Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan en route to Dubai. The four pilots, two mechanics and a load master were declared dead at the scene.
Commenting on the Qatari government’s reported bid to have the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) headquarters relocated from Canada to the country’s capital, Doha, ITF general secretary David Cockroft said: “This defies belief. ICAO is the lead body for civil aviation across the world. How can an organisation that has to defend the rights and safety of workers and passengers be moved to a state whose citizens’ pleas for democracy are answered with batons and buckshot?”
