BA WORLD CARGO READY FOR NEW CANADIAN CUSTOMS REGULATIONS'

BA World Cargo has announced its readiness for the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA)’s new customs regime, due to take effect from 27 July. BA World Cargo was one of the first carriers to commence transmitting data electronically to the CBSA on behalf of its customers in December 2005 and has continued to work very closely with the agency to ensure its ongoing compliance.

In order to reduce pricing complexity, BA World Cargo’s customers have recommended that the carrier adopt similar charges to those levied for AirAMS.

As such, BA World Cargo will impose the following House Air Waybill Data Submission (HDS) charges for Canadian bound shipments, with effect from 27th July 2006 (based on air waybill execution date):

Electronic data exchange (EDI)

All house air waybill (HAWB) data submitted to BA World Cargo by EDI will be charged at GBP1.25/EUR2.00/USD2.50 per HAWB.

Documentation (Air Waybill/House Air Waybill) for BA World Cargo to enter the data into its own CBSA reporting system

All HAWB data that must be manually input by BA World Cargo will be charged at GBP5.50/EUR8.00/USD10.00 per HAWB.

Direct data transmission to CBSA by forwarder

No charge will be incurred if a prior agreement has been made with BA World Cargo.  In this case, it is still necessary for all HAWB data to be submitted to BA World Cargo by EDI.

Chris Bosworth, general manager commercial development, BA World Cargo, said: "We have made a significant investment in systems and resources to ensure that we comply with the CBSA’s requirements. Due to the costs this has generated, we have introduced these charges, which we believe are fair and reflect the need to maintain a safe and secure environment.”
