AirAsia X to go it alone

Malaysia's long-haul budget carrier, AirAsia X, has confirmed it is to fund expansion through an IPO - possibly some time next year - and to be a separate entity to sister carrier AirAsia, though they will continue to use the same web presence and share other infrastructure.

Ceo Tony said AirAsia X would restructure to be a stand-alone airline: "After more than two years of operation we have begun to notice some dilution of the AirAsia business model, and recognise the need for AirAsia and AirAsia X to remain focused on their respective markets."

Under the plan, AirAsia X will employ its own pilots, cabin crew, ground staff and commercial and marketing team.
